If you’ve dipped a nib into the world of fountain pen inks, chances are you’ve heard of Ferris Wheel Press. Based in Canada, they’re known for their playful packaging, story-rich collections, and colours that turn an ordinary page into something a little more magical. But with so many bottles on the shelf, it’s easy to wonder: what’s the difference between them all?
Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate their inky universe.

In Short
- Everyday Inks = bigger bottles, daily reliability
- Ferritales = collectible stories in smaller bottles, often shimmering
- Shimmer vs Non-Shimmer = sparkle or not
- Carousel Pens = the perfect match to their inks

Everyday Inks
Think of these as the reliable friends in your pen drawer. They’re water-based, easy to clean, and sized generously at 38 ml. Most are rich, solid colours with just a hint of shimmer (or none at all) — perfect for daily writing, journaling, planners, and letters.

Ferritales & Limited Series
This is where Ferris Wheel Press gets theatrical. Smaller 20 ml bottles hold colours inspired by fairy tales, seasons, and characters. They tend to be bolder or more complex, often with shimmer or sheen. Collectors love these, but they’re also wonderful if you want a splash of drama for special projects or calligraphy.

Shimmer vs. Non-Shimmer
FWP excels at shimmer inks — fine metallic particles that glint in gold, rose-gold, or wine tones. Shimmer adds excitement but may need a little extra pen cleaning and a gentle shake before use. Non-shimmer inks are pure dye, lower maintenance, and classic.

Special Editions & Collaborations
Seasonal drops and collaborations bring unusual bottles, caps, or label art. These tend to disappear fast — and reappear later only on collectors’ shelves.

Carousel Pens & Matching Inks
Ferris Wheel Press also makes the Carousel Fountain Pen, often releasing colours to match new inks. The pens are playful, lightweight, and come with a standard converter for easy refills.
